Girls Advocacy Development Network with support from Defence for children international organizes a High level dialogue with Councilors,MPs, Ward Development members, Community Development members, and Girls and young women.
On the 13th of July Girls Advocacy Development Network )GADNet) a young women led organization and an implementing partner of SHE LEADS programme in Sierraleone organized an high level engagement meeting with key stakeholders in communities in Freetown (Sussex, Rokupa, Yans Farm etc) This engagement meeting was to foster the inclusion and increase participation of girls and young women (GYW) in leadership decision making process at community level.
With an assessment done in this communities by Gadnet and DCI team presented by Girls champion and Leader of GADNet Hannah Kargbo indicates that women and girls participation is 30% low with 60% High of their Representation and emphasis that robust mechanism needs to be design as road map and strategic action to increase their participation which was successful achieved by communities present.
In attendance was the Mayor of the Municipality Freetown ,Executive Director of Defence for children international, Local councils, Representative UNAIDS, SHE LEADS youth Representatives, Members of parliament and girl and young women.
The Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki sawyerr
gave a solidarity statement on why it is important for girls to be given the platform of leadership at community level because it starts from there leading national level she aswell inspire girls and young women to own their space and change societal norms that keeps them attached to the kitchen.
